Healthy Eating on the Road

Eating healthy for anyone can sometimes feel like a colossal task. But eating healthy when you’re on the road can feel almost impossible. Here are some tips to eating healthy and cooking on the road!

  1. Don’t think of eating healthy as dieting; think of eating healthy as a way of life. Dieting implies that it will eventually end. That’s not the goal. The goal is to eat healthy as often as possible.
  2. Cut out soda/pop. Drink as much water as possible every day. Buy a BPA-free 32 ounce water bottle (Target sells bottles for about $7) and fill it up twice a day. It’s a good rule of thumb that you should drink about a half gallon of water every day. It keeps you hydrated and decreases the empty stomach feeling you’ll sometimes mistake as hunger pangs.
  3. Eat your biggest meal in the morning, then shrink your meals as the day goes on. Your body is a machine that you’re fueling, and you don’t want to start your day on an empty tank.
  4. Snacking is totally okay. If you’re a person that likes to eat a little bit multiple times a day, just plan to make your meals smaller so that you can snack as much as you want. Just make sure you’re choosing healthy snacks!
  5. Buy a crockpot and cook your own meals. When you get to dictate what goes into your food, you’ll be able to choose healthier options. You want to be eating 2-6 servings of fruit and veggies a day, and this is a great way to sneak those in. You only need about 4-6 ounces of lean protein a day.
