Eating healthy for anyone can sometimes feel like a colossal task. But eating healthy when you’re on the road can feel almost impossible. Here are some tips to eating healthy and cooking on the road!
- Don’t think of eating healthy as dieting; think of eating healthy as a way of life. Dieting implies that it will eventually end. That’s not the goal. The goal is to eat healthy as often as possible.
- Cut out soda/pop. Drink as much water as possible every day. Buy a BPA-free 32 ounce water bottle (Target sells bottles for about $7) and fill it up twice a day. It’s a good rule of thumb that you should drink about a half gallon of water every day. It keeps you hydrated and decreases the empty stomach feeling you’ll sometimes mistake as hunger pangs.
- Eat your biggest meal in the morning, then shrink your meals as the day goes on. Your body is a machine that you’re fueling, and you don’t want to start your day on an empty tank.
- Snacking is totally okay. If you’re a person that likes to eat a little bit multiple times a day, just plan to make your meals smaller so that you can snack as much as you want. Just make sure you’re choosing healthy snacks!
- Buy a crockpot and cook your own meals. When you get to dictate what goes into your food, you’ll be able to choose healthier options. You want to be eating 2-6 servings of fruit and veggies a day, and this is a great way to sneak those in. You only need about 4-6 ounces of lean protein a day.
